We are currently looking to fill an Overnight Caregiver position at our Central Island Home Instead location.

Position Overview

  • Job Title: Overnight Caregiver
  • Location: Near Port Place Mall, South Nanaimo
  • Shift Timings:
    • 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
    • 10:30 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Work Rotation:
    • 12-hour overnight shifts
    • 8-hour overnight shifts
    • Either fixed or rotating schedules available
  • Work Environment:
    • Applicants must be comfortable working in an environment where cigarette smoke is present

Key Responsibilities

As an Overnight Caregiver, your primary role will be to provide quality care and assistance to clients in their home environment. You will play an essential role in helping seniors maintain their independence while receiving professional and compassionate care. Key duties include:

  1. Personalized Care & Assistance

    • Providing compassionate care to elderly clients in their homes
    • Assisting clients with their daily activities such as:
      • Bathing
      • Dressing
      • Personal hygiene
    • Supporting clients with mobility challenges
  2. Medication Support

    • Assisting clients in managing their prescribed medications
    • Ensuring adherence to proper dosage and schedules
    • Maintaining accurate records related to medication intake
  3. Meal Preparation & Nutrition Assistance

    • Preparing nutritious meals based on clients’ dietary needs
    • Ensuring clients consume a balanced diet to maintain overall health
  4. Household Assistance

    • Assisting with light housekeeping duties such as:
      • Tidying living spaces
      • Laundry and linen changes
      • Basic home maintenance to ensure a safe and clean environment
  5. Monitoring & Reporting

    • Observing and assessing changes in clients’ physical and mental health
    • Reporting any health concerns to supervisors or relevant healthcare providers
    • Keeping detailed notes on clients’ well-being and daily activities
  6. Companionship & Social Engagement

    • Engaging clients in meaningful conversations and social activities
    • Providing emotional support and companionship
    • Participating in recreational activities to enhance clients’ quality of life

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for this position:

  1. Experience & Training

    • Previous experience in caregiving is an advantage, though not mandatory
    • Training or certifications in personal support work, caregiving or related fields are beneficial
  2. Technical & Physical Requirements

    • Ability to safely operate a sit-to-stand lift (training will be provided)
    • Physical capability to assist with mobility support and personal care
