Key Responsibilities of a Registered Nurse (RN)
A Registered Nurse plays a pivotal role in maintaining the well-being of residents by providing exceptional care and ensuring their safety, comfort and dignity. As an RN at The Gardens at Qualicum Beach, your duties will include:
1. Resident Admissions & Care Management
- Handling admissions, discharges and transfers of residents, ensuring smooth transitions within the facility.
- Conducting thorough resident assessments to evaluate health conditions and create personalized care plans.
2. Medication & Treatment Administration
- Administering medications, treatments and wound care, following established medical protocols.
- Ensuring accurate documentation of administered drugs and treatment effectiveness in the electronic medical record system (PointClickCare).
3. Care Coordination & Communication
- Acting as the primary liaison between physicians, families and other healthcare professionals, ensuring that residents receive coordinated and holistic care.
- Conducting care conferences and medication reviews, discussing residents’ treatment progress with family members and healthcare providers.
4. Leadership & Delegation
- Overseeing the work of unregulated care providers, assigning appropriate tasks while maintaining quality standards.
- Taking on Charge Nurse responsibilities, managing staff members, ensuring compliance with protocols and addressing any concerns that arise.
Qualifications & Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Nursing Registration: Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and maintain good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- CPR & First Aid Certification: A valid CPR/First Aid Certificate is required.
- Electronic Documentation Proficiency: Candidates must be competent in working with electronic medical records (EMRs), particularly eMar and PointClickCare.
- Language Skills: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
- Analytical & Critical Thinking Skills: Strong decision-making abilities and the capability to think critically in complex healthcare situations.
- Long-Term Care Experience (Preferred): Prior experience working in long-term care or geriatric care settings is an asset.
- COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: Applicants must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination as part of the health and safety protocols.
